類まれなビジネスセンス、そして幅広い教養、そして洗練されたカルティエという血統が美しさの原点の代名詞としてこの世に今でも語り継がれる…その名は” ルイ・ジョセフ・カルティエ”。3代目として23歳で既に父親であるアルフレッドと共同経営として実践哲学の中で経営を学び、抜きでたそのすべてにおいての才能の中で、彼の行き着く先は、タイムピースに答えを求めた。それは動かぬ宝石の美よりも『機能する美』に強く引かれたのも事実であり、アルフレッドの時代の単なる装飾品の一部としての存在であった時計という世界を、美しいのは必然的であるという理論はもちろんのこと、そこに正確でなければならないという時計本来の姿を明確に打ち出したのである。それが彼の生涯を左右する出会いであったと後年彼自身述べているブレゲの再来とも呼ばれた”モーリス・コリエ”と当時、フランス一の時計職人として世界にその名をしらしめていた”エドモンド・ジャガー”である。”モーリス・コリエ”に関しては、ジョセフ自身で彼ほを説得し、時計製造部門を一手にまかせた。そして”エドモンド・ジャガー”はご存知、名門ジャガー・ルクルトとなる”ジャック・ダビド・ルクルト”と共に創業者の一人である。1903年、二人が出会うことで世界最強マニュファクチュールが誕生し、1904年、当時既に世界一の称号を手に入れたパテックフィリップやヴァシュロン・コンスタンタン同様、ジャガー社も全商品にルクルトのムーブメントを採用、高級時計ブランドとして世界にその名を残すこととなる。当然、” ルイ・ジョセフ・カルティエ”はそのジャガー社の勢いに目をつけ、1907年フランス国内でのジャガー社製品すべての独占販売権を獲得。その後、ピエール・カルティエによりニューヨーク支店設立により本格的に世界に打ってでた。そして1917年、タンク発表と共にニユーヨークを拠点にアメリカ市場の拡販を拡大する為に、又、当時、大幅な関税の値上げと共に輸出用時計を製造する会社をニューヨークに設立した。

Even today, these qualities continue to define the very origin of beauty in the world of luxury.
His name was Louis Cartier.

At only twenty-three years old, Louis Cartier was already managing the maison alongside his father, Alfred Cartier, learning business through real-world philosophy and experience. Yet among all his remarkable talents, the path he ultimately pursued led him toward the art of timepieces.

More than the beauty of motionless jewels, he was deeply captivated by what could be called “functional beauty.”
Under Alfred’s era, watches had still been regarded merely as elegant decorative accessories. Louis changed this completely. Beauty, to him, was natural and essential—but a watch must also be precise. He clearly defined the true purpose of watchmaking itself.

The two men who would forever shape his destiny were the legendary watchmaker Maurice Couet—later called the reincarnation of Breguet—and Edmond Jaeger, already celebrated as one of France’s greatest horological masters.

Louis personally persuaded Maurice Couet to join Cartier and entrusted him with the entire watchmaking division.
Meanwhile, Edmond Jaeger would later become one of the founding forces behind Jaeger-LeCoultre together with Jacques-David LeCoultre.

Their historic encounter in 1903 gave birth to one of the greatest manufacturing partnerships in watchmaking history. By 1904, just as Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin had already established themselves among the world’s elite, Jaeger too adopted LeCoultre movements across its entire production, securing its place among the greatest luxury watchmakers of the age.

Naturally, Louis Cartier immediately recognized the power of Jaeger’s momentum, and in 1907 Cartier secured exclusive distribution rights for all Jaeger products throughout France.
Later, through the establishment of the New York branch by Pierre Cartier, Cartier fully entered the global stage.

Then, in 1917, alongside the debut of the legendary Cartier Tank, Cartier established a New York-based watch manufacturing company to expand aggressively into the American market while also responding to rising import tariffs of the period.

That company was:
